What Does Love Look Like?
Our
little Bracken family was given a very tough test this week.
One of our employees was in the news and not in a favorable
way. Media swarmed the school on Tuesday and Wednesday looking
for way to sensationalize the issue. God’s Word is not silent
with what our response should be when difficulties arise. Love
is an easily tossed around word for Christians, but our God who
created it all modeled for us a perfect love. That is where we
should take our lessons from, and I encourage you to hear my
heart on the following.
I love
and care about Larry Vincent. He has been, and is, a valued
part of this ministry. Many kids and parents alike have
commented about how much their child has been positively
influenced while under his direction. He has been exemplary in
his conduct and handling of everything we have ever given him to
oversee.
The facts
are not all known as to what exactly happened, but it is safe to
say it was not in keeping with the character of the godly coach,
father and grandfather that we have come to know and love.
I don’t
know what the future holds for Coach Poppy, but I do know who
holds his future. It’s the same God who holds yours and mine.
My time in God’s Word has directed me to answers from the life
of King David. Here was an individual who was given the title
of, “a man after God’s own heart,” and yet he committed sin
against God. I’m not trying to hold up anyone to the caliber of
David, but I do believe the principles he lived under still
apply to you and me today. We are always going to be held
accountable for disobedience to our Lord. Forgiveness is just a
whisper away, but a consequence still exists. Painful
consequences are designed to keep us on a righteous path when we
might not otherwise feel like obeying. It is a part of every
parenting seminar, school classroom and yes, even living in a
fallen world.
I would
encourage you to not fall victim to idle talk, innuendos, gossip
and rumors that may or may not be true regarding this issue.
There is always a reputation at stake, and this situation is no
different. Part of the healing process is to know that you are
still loved by your family even when sin happens. I could tell
you in the 25 years of BCS history there have been plenty of
poor choices made by students who wish they could take it back.
They seek God and His forgiveness and hopefully move on… healing
as they go. God never gives up and will always use a willing
vessel to flow through with the love of Christ.
If you
desire to be used to help in the healing process consider
sending a card or kind letter to encourage a brother who is at
his lowest. Pray for healing and direction for what you can
learn from this in your own life. Scripture teaches, “Let’s be
quick to forgive and quick to show love. Read 1 Corinthians 13
and be reminded of the love of Christ. I know someone who needs
it desperately right now…… tomorrow it might be you!
