The STREAM program follows a Hybrid Model, combining on-campus instruction with at-home learning. At Bracken, we partner with families to support their pursuit of a Biblically-centered education for their children. The STREAM program combines the opportunity for social interactions and community with the flexibility and parent-leadership of school at home.
Students in grades K-7 attend classes with professional teachers two days per week, while grades 8-12 attend three days. New concepts are taught on campus, and home days involve completing teacher-designed lesson plans under parental supervision. These days are still considered school days and include independent work, studying, and projects. On-campus instruction is accelerated, covering about two lessons per day, with physical education, lunch, and recess held alongside traditional peers. Optional elementary electives, such as art, music, home economics, and STEM, are available on select Fridays for an additional fee.
Lesson plans are created by paid professional teachers and to be strictly followed by students and families with all home day work due on the following school day or due date specified by the teacher.
A general rule of thumb for home campus length of day for university-model type schools is the grade plus one hour of required work to be completed in the “satellite classroom” at home (ex. 4th grade = 5 hours; capping out at 6-7 hours).
This rule, of course, varies according to the need and increases a bit as students progress to higher grades. If a student is academically strong in a particular area, perhaps less time will be needed. If a student is weak in a subject or the subject is particularly challenging, then more time will be needed.
Some curriculum mirrors what is implemented in Traditional classrooms, while other subjects are unique to STREAM based on the accelerated pace of on campus school days and the partnership with families on home campus days.
All Bracken Christian School curriculum and instruction is delivered within the context of a Biblical worldview.

STREAM is offered to Kindergarten-12th grade.
K4 does not require any home campus days, and therefore is not a part of the STREAM program.
STREAM provides a rigorous education. By this, we mean that we uphold high expectations of our students with support for success. Students can expect to be challenged and grow academically. Classroom work should fall within the expected hours, and a well-rounded student will have life outside of the classroom. We encourage participation in sports and the arts. Family time is precious and because of our collaborative model, our families should get a great deal of quality time learning and growing together.
One of the most important ingredients in the success of the STREAM model is an available parent who can assist and properly work with the student on home campus days. For a family in which both parents work outside the home on a full-time, or almost full-time basis, a more traditional model is probably a better fit.
Having a structured, organized arrangement at home to facilitate learning is essential in setting students up for success on home campus days.
YES! We provide parent training/orientation prior to the beginning of the academic year. This training will include setting up an effective classroom-at-home environment, curriculum instruction and other helpful resources to support you as the home educator. Parents will have the ability to communicate via GroupMe with other grade level parents, as well as teachers on home campus days. Teachers hold designated office hour times on home campus days to check email and GroupMe to assist with questions.
Parents need not have teaching experience. Bracken Christian School teachers take the lead in the area of academics. New concepts are introduced and taught at school by paid professional faculty while the application of the concept often takes place at home, much like that of college studies. Parents act as co-teachers under the guidance and direction of the classroom teacher. As a child progresses to higher grade levels, the academic role of the parent gradually migrates from that of co-teacher to proctor/facilitator, so that by the time a student graduates they are prepared to assume the individual responsibility required for success at the collegiate level.
Both STREAM and Traditional students wear uniforms Monday-Thursday, with Spirit Dress (jeans and a Bracken t-shirt days every Friday.
Most of our curriculum is aligned between STREAM and Traditional, however some of our curriculum lends itself better four our STREAM model. All students are aligned academically in both programs.
Every student has an opportunity to attend Chapel on campus, although most are held on Fridays, which is a home campus day for STREAM students in grades K-7. All families are invited and encouraged to attend, even on home campus days.
STREAM uses Bible Study Fellowship as the Bible curriculum. Students participate in prayer, pledges, and recitation of Bible verses. Prayer is said prior to lunch at the elementary level and throughout the day at the discretion of the teacher and pledges are recited each morning.
Yes, all sports are offered starting in 6th grade for both programs. If your student has a scheduled practice occurring on a home day, they are required to be on campus for that practice.
Unfortunately, we do not offer sports for our elementary students.
Bracken takes security very seriously, and we recently implemented a multiple level security program for our campus. For more detailed information, please reach out to the Admissions department. [email protected]
The child and the family must demonstrate a desire to receive an education that is built upon an openly evangelical Christian perspective that asserts the Lordship of Jesus Christ in everyday living and the authority of Scripture to establish moral guidelines for righteous living. Scripture teaches that children are to be under the authority of their parents; therefore, children must reside with their parents and/or legal guardians while enrolled/attending Bracken. At least one parent must be a professing Christian.
